VIAJANDO A ESPAÑA COMO LUGAREÑOS… por Kairong & Richard Michelsen

Durante nuestros viajes privados a España/Portugal el pasado diciembre, no tuvimos oportunidad de visitar el Museo Guggenheim en Bilbao España, debido a su ubicación. Decidimos hacer una gira por el norte de España antes de viajar a Marruecos en mayo de este año.

Recomendados por nuestro agente de viajes de Marruecos, encontramos la página web (www.gamesoftravels.com) de Games of Travels, una pequeña empresa de viajes independiente en Barcelona, ​​que ofrece tours en Europa y en Marruecos.

Su página web estaba completamente en Español… Y cuando tratamos de contactarlos mediante el icono de WhatsApp recibimos una respuesta automática en español, así que preguntamos si podían responder en inglés.

El fundador (Yahya) comenzó a comunicarse con nosotros a pesar de que no hablaba bien el inglés. Impresionado por su sinceridad y el precio razonable que ofreció, nos arriesgamos a dejarlo ser nuestro guía y conductor de nuestro viaje por el norte de España. ¡Resultó ser una excelente elección!

Cuando conocimos a Yahya en Madrid, nos dio un folleto en el que había todos los detalles de nuestro tour, incluyendo los horarios y las descripciones de los lugares que visitaríamos.

Cuando visitábamos algunos lugares que no estaban en el folleto, nos envió las introducciones de What’s Up. A veces nos llevó por más paisajes de caminos pequeños, en lugar de por carreteras, aunque era más agotador para él. Sugirió algunas paradas que eran sorprendentes e intrigantes.

Con Yahya, realmente viajamos como lugareños. Nos alojamos en todo tipo de alojamientos: hoteles, una estancia de negocios y un apartamento con cocina y lavandería en una zona residencial. Fuimos a los lugares donde a los lugareños les gusta ir para nuestras comidas.

Algunos sabores locales que probamos eran muy frescos y deliciosos a precios más bajos que los restaurantes caros para los turistas. En Bilbao, tres de nosotros nos alojamos en un apartamento, donde Yahya nos invitó a disfrutar de una sabrosa comida típica española con dos botellas de buen vino.

Había algunos alimentos que nunca habíamos probado antes. “¿Qué tipo de fideo es este?” Richard preguntó señalando un plato blanco. “Esto es un marisco”, sonrió Yahya.

Ayudados por el traductor, hablamos, con unas buenas risas sobre nuestras familias, nuestras experiencias, nuestros pensamientos…. Las conversaciones eran tan interesantes y embriagadoras como la comida y el vino.

Yahya estuvo con nosotros en cada paso del camino y nos cuidó por completo. No teníamos preocupaciones de viajar en un país extranjero.

Durante este período inusual. Rellenó todos los formularios y nos hizo las citas para las pruebas PCR de Covid-19, que se requería para las entradas a Marruecos. De camino a nuestras pruebas, Yahya nos llevó a tres bares de tapas diferentes para degustar. ¡Qué forma tan agradable de ir a nuestras pruebas de Covid-19!

Conocimos a Yahya como extraños, pero nos abrazamos para despedirnos como miembros de la familia. Después de nuestro viaje, todavía nos escribió preguntándonos opiniones y sugerencias para nuestros viajes, incluido el de Marruecos, y contándonos que están trabajando para añadir una versión en inglés en su página web. También nos escribió: “Disfruté este viaje con ustedes, ya que ha sido más que un trabajo, un viaje en familia”. “Hola familia, cómo están? Espero verlos pronto en Barcelona, ​​estáis invitados a mi casa como si fuera vuestra casa.” “Tengo guardadas algunas botellas especiales de vino para ti el día que vengas a Barcelona.”

 Al tomar los caminos menos transitados y buscar aventuras, obtuvimos una visión genial de la auténtica vida local, disfrutamos de los lugares que visitados como locales, sin estrés, divirtiéndonos mucho, con nuevos descubrimientos y exploraciones, ¡y un nuevo miembro de la familia!

Travel like locals:

During our private trips to Spain/Portugal last December, we didn’t have a chance to visit Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao Spain, because of its location. We decided to have a Northern Spain tour before heading to Morocco in May this year. Recommended by our Morocco travel agent, we found the webpage ( https:// www.gamesoftravels.com ) of Games of Travels, a small independent tour company in Barcelona, which offers tours in Europe and in Morocco. It’s webpage was all in Spanish? Trying to contact them by WhatsApp (a green circle with a telephone in) with an automatic response in Spanish, we asked if they could respond in English. The founder Yahya began to communicate with us despite his not good English. Impressed by his sincerity and reasonable price he offered, we took a chance to let him be our guide and driver of our Northern Spain trip. It turned out to be an excellent choice.

When we first met Yahya in Madrid, he gave us a booklet in which there were all the details of our tour, including the schedules and the descriptions of the places we would visit. When we visited some places which were not in the booklet, he sent us the introductions by What’s Up. Sometimes he drove us by more scenery small roads, rather than by highways, although it was more tiring for him. He suggested some stops which were surprising and intriguing. With Yahya, we really traveled like locals. We stayed in all kinds of accommodations: hotels, a business staying over place and an apartment with kitchen and laundry machine in a residential area. We went to the places where locals like to go for our meals. Some local flavors we tried were very fresh and delicious at much lower prices than overpriced restaurants for tourists. In Bilbao, three of us stayed in an apartment, where Yahya treated us a tasty typical Spanish meal with two bottles of good wine. There were some foods we had never tried before. “What kind of noodle is this?” Richard asked pointing to a white dish. “This is a seafood,” Yahya smiled. Helped by the translator, we talked, with some good laughter, about our families, our experiences, our thoughts…. The conversations were as interesting and intoxicating as the food and wine. Yahya was with us every step of the way and completely took care of us. We had no worries of traveling in a foreign country during this unusual period. He filled out all the forms and made the Covid-19 PCR tests appointments for us, which was required for the entries to Morocco. On the way to our tests, Yahya brought us to three different tapa bars for tasting. What an enjoyable way of going for our Covid-19 tests. We met Yahya as strangers, we hugged each other goodbye like family members. After our trip, he still wrote to us asking our opinions and suggestions for our trips, including the one in Morocco, and telling us they are working on adding English version on their webpage. He also wrote to us: “I enjoyed this trip with you, since it has been more than a job, a family trip.” “Hello family, how are you? I hope to see you soon in Barcelona, you are invited to my house as if it were your home.” “I have saved some special bottles of wine for you the day you come to Barcelona.” By taking the roads less traveled and looking for adventures, we got a cool insight into authentic local life, enjoyed the places we visited like locals, stress free, having a lot of fun, with new discovery and explore, and a new family member!
